2011 DOST Scholarship Grant Passers

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has released the results of 2011 DOST Scholarship Grant Examination. A total of 1,225 fourth-year high school students have successfully passed the November 2010 DOST-SEI undergraduate scholarship examination.

Out of the total number of passers, 826 qualified as scholars under the RA 7687 scholarships, a scholarship program for talented and deserving students belonging to economically disadvantaged families. The remaining 399 passed the DOST-SEI Merit scholarship program.

DOST-SEI Officer-In-Charge and Deputy Director Leticia V. Catris said the government sees its scholars not as mere spectators in the S&T community but active participants and leaders in shaping the future of Philippine research and development.

“We give to the Philippines top-caliber scholars who play an active role in the conduct of world-class researches,” she said.

Catris said that upon completion of their baccalaureate degrees, DOST-SEI scholars are required to render service in the country along their field of specialization for a period equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarship grant.

“We are optimistic that these young people will stay in the country beyond the required years of service, boost the pool of scientists and engineers in the country as they become the new breed of S&T movers in the Philippines,” she said. (30)
